NYCDOG meeting and Parks Dept Hearings

Here is a message from Bob Marino of NYCDOG, the city-wide coalition of dog owners groups:

PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND THIS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT MEETING.

THIS IS THE CULMINATION OF A YEAR LONG BATTLE TO PRESERVE OFF-LEASH
AND TO ESTABLISH DOG PARK/RUN STANDARDS THROUGHOUT THE CITY.

THIS MEETING IS OPEN TO REPRESENTATIVES OF GROUPS (It is not an open
meeting to the public).

office or the conference room #2455. Info will be posted that night if

AGENDA NYCdog MEETING

FEB 22, 2006, 6:30 PM SHARP

This meeting is for representatives of NYCdog groups, new groups, and
people wishing to form groups. Please keep it to 1-3 people per group
max. If you know any group that would/should join NYCdog please have
them get in touch with us at info@NYCdog.org.

1. Introduction of groups and new groups. PLEASE sign in upon arrival-
we need full contact info.


2. OFF-LEASH: Matthew Greller, NYCdog attorney, will explain the Parks
CAPA hearings scheduled for Tue, Feb 22.

· Importance for EVERY group to have a public speaker and written
statement in support of off-leash.

· How it impacts Dog Parks as well.

· How NYCdog will propose changes to Parks proposals. Please see
www.NYCoffleash.com for updated info.

· Plans for Feb 22 hearings including speakers, press, petitions &
letters, etc.


3. PIT BULL BAN: Breed-specific legislation. [Trudy and Terri will
fill-in our members on meeting with Councilmember Avella.] Brief
discussion and update.


4. DOG PARKS

§ General discussion of the dog park problems, rules, etc.

§ Dog Park funding [Hopefully Garrett will lead discussion]

§ How to get City Council support.

§ Dog Parks and Off-Leash: can they co-exist in larger parks?

§ Strategies for approaching Parks to help deal with dog park
problems/issues (signs, rules, enforcement, surfacing, etc.)


5. Open discussion.
