why
Why a dog run?
Community concern regarding the safety and nuisance issues of off-leash dogs in the park increased throughout 2004 and 2005.
There was an increase of tickets issued to owners who let their dogs off-leash in the park.
For a number of reasons, including the high use and modest size of our park, The Parks Dept. was not willing to grant permission for limited off-leash hours in Cooper Park.
It was decided that a fenced dog area is the best solution to benefit everyone who uses the park by:
• keeping the entire park clean
• protecting the grass and plants
• increasing safety for everyone, including our neighborhood dogs
Cooper Bark formed in the Spring of 2005 to build and maintain the run. The gates and fences were erected and the run was opened to the public in September 2005.
